The slowest part of a talking-head video is not filming. It is reading the script three times without stumbling, or waiting a day for a voice actor. This is how to turn a script into a publishable voice track in three minutes, and where it usually goes wrong.
Step one: decide who is talking
There is one rule for choosing a short-video voice: match the channel's persona. Explainer channels want a newsreader or a composed female voice; emotional storytelling wants a low late-night-radio tone; product channels want a high-energy host. Do not rotate voices — the voice is what viewers remember.
Step two: write the first three seconds for the ear
Completion rate lives in the opening. "Hi everyone, today we're going to talk about" read aloud is the sound of a scroll. Write the hook as a line you could shout, then direct it with an emotion tag:
[excited] Don't scroll — this video is fifteen seconds long and it will save you three months. The [excited] in brackets is never read out; it only changes the delivery. See the emotion tags cheatsheet.
Step three: export with subtitles
Generate in text to speech and you get the audio plus a word-level SRT. Drop the SRT into CapCut and captions land on each word without manual timing. If your captions drift, read the subtitle timing guide.
Three common mistakes
- Written English, not spoken English: swap "therefore" for "so" and "however" for "but".
- Sentences too long: break anything over 20 words; the model breathes at punctuation.
- Numbers and brand names: write "three-C" for "3C", and fix mispronounced brands with the pronunciation dictionary.
What it costs
Billing is per character: a 200-word script is roughly 80 credits. The Starter plan at $7 a month includes 600 credits, enough for about seven of them; see how credits work.
