A YouTube Shorts voiceover is the narration that carries a vertical video: a hook in the first seconds, a fast payoff, and captions timed to every word. On VoiceSmiths you paste the script, pick an energetic voice and download an MP3 plus an SRT caption file for your editor; about ten seconds per Short. Hear finished Shorts voiceovers first.
A tip Short that opens with a hook: Sweet Girl (EN), [excited]:
[excited] Stop scrolling: you've been storing bananas wrong your whole life. Keep them apart, wrap the stems, and they last a week longer. Follow for one fix a day.A story Short, Tech Founder, calm and punchy:
A list Short for travel: Aussie Surfer:
[excited] Three beaches nobody talks about. Number three has no road in. [laughs] Number one? You'll need a boat.Hear each Shorts voice's own preview
Tap a voice to hear it. To voice your own text, paste it into the workbench: 7 credits per 100 characters, starting with the $3.90 trial pack.

How to write a Shorts script that holds people
- Hook in the first line. "Stop scrolling: you've been storing bananas wrong" works because it names the viewer and the payoff.
- One idea per Short. A 30-second script is about 75 words; cut everything that isn't the point.
- Short sentences, numbers as words: "Day ninety… I had a shop."
- Tag the turns:
[excited]on the hook,[laughs]after a joke; Eleven v4 acts them instead of reading them aloud. - End with a reason to follow: "Follow for one fix a day."
Make a Shorts voiceover in the workbench
- Open the voice workbench with Sweet Girl (EN) and Eleven v4.
- Paste the script and generate.
- Download the MP3 and the SRT, drop both onto your vertical timeline in CapCut, Premiere or YouTube's own editor, and style the captions. For a skit with several voices, use multi-speaker dialogue.

FAQ
Is this YouTube Shorts voiceover free? Listening is free: every sample on this page plays for anyone, no account needed. Generating your own script happens in the VoiceSmiths workbench at 7 credits per 100 characters, so a 30-second Short (about 400 characters) is roughly 28 credits. A first order can be the taster pack ($1.99, 100 credits, about three 30-second Shorts, once per account); the trial pack is $3.90 for new users in the first hour after sign-up (list $9.90) with 500 credits, about 17 Shorts of that length, one-time and never expiring.
Can I monetize Shorts with an AI voiceover? Our terms let you use the audio you generate commercially, including monetized YouTube videos. Whether a channel earns is up to YouTube: its policies reward original content, so write your own script and add your own footage or commentary. YouTube also asks you to label realistic altered or synthetic content, for example making a real person appear to say something they did not; read its current rules before you publish.
Do I get captions for the Short? Yes. Every generation comes with an SRT file timed to the speech, so the words land on the right frames when you drop it into CapCut, Premiere or YouTube Studio.
Can it make the vertical video too? For a voiceover, you add the audio and captions to your own footage. For a short scene with several characters, the audio drama studio can export a 9:16 MP4 with the script on screen.
Which voice works best for Shorts? An energetic voice with a clear hook: Sweet Girl (EN) for tips and lifestyle, Tech Founder for stories and business, Aussie Surfer for travel and lists. Tag the first line with [excited] and keep sentences short.
How long can a Short be? YouTube currently allows Shorts up to three minutes. Most voiceovers here are 15 to 40 seconds; at about 14 characters per second of English, a 3-minute script is around 2,500 characters, or 175 credits.
