《阿拉丁和神灯》是《一千零一夜》（又名《天方夜谭》）里最有名的故事之一，但至今没有发现更早的阿拉伯文原本，它最早见于 18 世纪初法国学者加朗的法译本，据说是一位叙利亚讲故事人讲给他听的；原文里阿拉丁就住在中国的一座城里。原著中公主用毒药放倒魔法师、阿拉丁杀了他，后来魔法师的弟弟又来复仇；这个睡前版改成让魔法师喝下昏睡的药粉，再被灯神送到远方的沙漠，并省去了弟弟那一段。
