Anime Voice Generator: Japanese & English AI Voices

Anime voice generator with original anime-style AI voices, a genki heroine, a shonen hero, a playful girl, for Japanese or English lines. Hear each one.

Last updated: 2026-10-26

An anime voice generator turns typed lines into speech in an anime-style voice: a bright genki heroine, a hot-blooded shonen hero, a playful kawaii girl, a cold villainess. On VoiceSmiths you type a line in Japanese or English, pick one of our anime-style character voices and download an MP3 with timed subtitles. The character voices are original designs made from text descriptions, not clones of voice actors or of characters from a show.

A short Japanese scene: Anime Girl and Hot-Blooded Youth. ("Wait, are you really going? There are three of them!" / "Doesn't matter! I'm not leaving a friend behind!" / "Ugh! Fine, then I'm coming too!") Hot-Blooded Youth was designed in Mandarin, so listen for the accent:

The same Japanese sentence from Anime Girl on Eleven v4, then on Eleven v3. In our Eleven v4 vs v3 test both read the Japanese script with no transcription errors, and v4 generated it faster:

Voice: Anime GirlJapaneseModel: eleven_v48 s

And a whole Japanese episode, adapted from one of our Chinese short dramas and performed by five voices that were all designed in Mandarin, the fairest test of how they carry Japanese:

Anime archetypes and the tags that play them

An archetype is mostly delivery. Start from the closest voice and direct it with Eleven v4 audio tags, written in English in square brackets before the words, whatever language the line is in. All of these tags come from the set our audio drama studio uses:

ArchetypeStart withTagsExample line
GenkiAnime Girl[excited], [laughing][excited] Leave it to me! I've trained for this my whole life!
Shonen heroHot-Blooded Youth[shouting], [earnestly][shouting] It's not over! I'm still standing!
TsundereAnime Girl or Playful Girl[impatiently], then [nervous][impatiently] It's not like I made these for you. [nervous] Just… eat one.
KuudereCalm Japanese Narrator or Ice Queen[calmly], [cold][calmly] You're late. I noticed.
YanderePlayful Girl[teasing], then [menacing][teasing] You'll stay with me forever, right? [menacing] Right?
VillainIce Queen or Big Bad Wolf[mocking], [laughing][mocking] Is that all you've got?
MentorWandering Swordsman[solemnly][solemnly] A blade is only as calm as the hand that holds it.

Put a tag at each turn in the feeling, not on every sentence. Tags are performed, never read aloud, and never show up in the subtitles. More on tags in emotional text to speech.

Design your own anime voice

When no voice fits, describe the one in your head and design it in the voice studio for 20 credits; hear designed voices first on prompt to voice. Describe how the voice sounds, not who it sounds like. Three prompts to start from:

  • A cool, quiet teenage girl with a low, even voice. Speaks in short, flat sentences and almost never raises her voice. Japanese.
  • A loud, cheerful teenage boy, slightly hoarse from shouting, fast and full of fighting spirit. Japanese.
  • An elegant, mature villainess with a silky, amused voice. Slow and precise; every sentence sounds like a threat. English, with a light British accent.

Want to act the line yourself? The voice changer in Audio Tools keeps your pacing, pauses and emotion and swaps in another voice.

What you can use an anime voice generator for

  • VTubers and streamers: intros, alerts, a character co-host.
  • Games: NPC barks, menu lines and prototype dialogue; see game NPC voice lines.
  • Shorts, comics and original animation: a cast for characters you created.
  • Audio dramas and light-novel audio: a full cast with the audio drama studio.

Audio you generate is yours and can be used commercially under section 6 of our terms of service. What the terms rule out is impersonation: you may not clone or imitate a real performer without consent or pass audio off as a specific real person. Dubbing an existing show is a separate question about the show itself: you need the rights to its footage and script.

What it costs

7 credits per 100 characters on Eleven v4, with a minimum of 7 credits per generation, so one short anime line costs 7 credits.

  • Japanese is dense. Our Japanese samples run about 300–400 characters a minute, so a minute of Japanese speech is roughly 21–28 credits: about $0.44–0.93 at monthly-plan list prices ($0.17–0.37 in the first month at the new-user price). English is about 850 characters, 60 credits, a minute.
  • Trial pack: 150 credits, one-time and never expiring: $9.90 list, or $3.90 for new users in the first 24 hours after sign-up.
  • Starter: 600 credits a month, $7.90 for the first month for new users, then $19.90 a month.

Nothing is free to generate; every sample and voice preview is free to listen to. See pricing.

FAQ

Can it do a specific character's voice from an anime? No. The anime-style voices we designed (Anime Girl, Playful Girl, Hot-Blooded Youth…) were made from a text description, not cloned from a voice actor or copied from a show; the others come from ElevenLabs’ licensed voice library. Our terms forbid imitating a real performer. You can design a voice of the same type, a loud shonen hero or a cool, quiet heroine, with prompt-to-voice.

Can the anime voices speak Japanese? Yes. Anime Girl was designed as a Japanese voice, and Calm Japanese Narrator is a native Japanese narrator. The other anime-style voices were designed in Mandarin or English: on Eleven v4 they can speak Japanese, but they keep the accent they were designed with.

Is there an anime voice changer? This page is text to speech. To turn your own recording into a character voice, use the voice changer in Audio Tools: your timing and emotion stay, and only the voice changes.

Can I use the voices for a VTuber, a game or a YouTube channel? Yes. Audio you generate is yours and can be used commercially under our terms of service. What you may not do is pass it off as a real voice actor or use it to impersonate a real person.

Is the anime voice generator free? Listening is free: every sample and voice preview on this page plays for anyone, no account needed. Generating uses credits, 7 per 100 characters, so a short line costs 7 credits. The one-time trial pack has 150 credits at a $3.90 new-user price in the first 24 hours after sign-up (list $9.90).

Can I make a whole anime-style scene with several characters? Yes. Give each line its own voice in multi-speaker text to speech, or paste a Chinese or English script into the audio drama studio, which casts every character for you and can then adapt the finished drama into Japanese with the same cast. The studio does not read Japanese source scripts yet.
