About this story
迈达斯点石成金的故事出自古罗马诗人奥维德《变形记》第十一卷:弗里吉亚国王迈达斯款待了酒神狄俄尼索斯(罗马人称巴克斯)走失的老师西勒诺斯,酒神许他一个愿望,他便要了“碰到什么都变成金子”,结果饭吃不下、水喝不了,只好求酒神收回。在奥维德的原诗里并没有女儿;女儿被抱成金像的情节,是美国作家霍桑 1852 年在儿童故事集 A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys 的《点金术》(The Golden Touch)一篇里加上的,他给小女孩起名 Marygold。这一版把两者合在一起,结尾仍按奥维德的写法,让迈达斯在帕克托罗斯河里洗去点金术。
