关于这个故事

The Ant and the Dove is one of Aesop's Fables, the short moral tales handed down from ancient Greece, and Jean de La Fontaine retold it in French in the 17th century. A dove saves a drowning ant by dropping a leaf into the stream, and the ant later saves the dove by biting a bird-catcher on the foot. This VoiceSmiths retelling turns it into a gentle full-cast audio story, with a brave little ant named Dot and a grumbling bird-catcher whose net catches only dandelions.

故事告诉我们

One good turn deserves another. Kindness is often repaid, and sometimes by the smallest friend you have.

  • Float a leaf in a bowl of water and let a bead or a toy ride it to the edge, just like Dot.
  • Ask: how did Coo help Dot, and how did Dot help Coo back?
  • Talk about a time someone helped your child, and how they might return the kindness.

What is the moral of The Ant and the Dove?
One good turn deserves another. The dove saves the ant with a leaf, and the ant repays her by biting the bird-catcher so the dove can fly to safety.
Who wrote The Ant and the Dove?
It is one of Aesop's Fables, traditionally credited to Aesop, a storyteller said to have lived in ancient Greece around the sixth century BCE. La Fontaine later retold it in French; this version is a VoiceSmiths retelling.
How is The Ant and the Dove like The Lion and the Mouse?
Both fables show a small creature repaying a kindness. In The Lion and the Mouse the tiny mouse gnaws the lion free from a net; in The Ant and the Dove the ant saves the dove from a bird-catcher.
